Our bobbins come as either single or double-ended.
Single-ended bobbins have 4 or 6 dowels or 4, 6 or 8 nails.
Double-ended bobbins have either dowels or nails, 4 one end and 6 the other.
FAQ 1: Are nails or dowels better?
A: For those that are new to them nails are better because the shaping at the top holds the stitch better but if you wish to use very chunky yarns or wire then dowels are better.
FAQ 2: What difference does the number of nails/dowels make?
A: Each nail or dowel represents a stitch so you will get a larger diameter tube with more nails. It is also possible to make stripes with more nails (see instructions).
FAQ 3: What’s the point of having nails both ends? How does that work?
A: You can use either one end or the other to get different diameter tubes, you can’t use both at the same time.
